My experience as a guide for Living Hope Baptist on their mission trip to Giyani – Jeremy (ACTS guide)

A Day in the life of an ACTS guide

ACTS facilitates Christian mission work, volunteer opportunities and holidays across 14 African countries by handling all the logistics for these. ACTS comes alongside local churches, missionaries and organization’s and partners with them to enable them to focus on the ministry at hand.

Guiding for these groups is part of what I do at ACTS!

It all began with a two hour wait at O.R.Tambo airport not knowing if the group had even made it to Africa, I waited in the arrivals hall. While I was calling the ACTS office I got a wave from a lady in the crowd, with a huge relief and the biggest smile she asked “Are you Jeremy?” …And my perfect, inspiring, challenging and exciting week began.

During any long road transfer I use this opportunity to get to know my group we chat, laugh and enjoy each other’s company sharing our testimonies and life experiences.

I learnt about the work Living Hope Baptist does in an area called Giyani and Muchipisii. During our ministry time we visited a small rural village of about 500 community members. The humble homes made of clay with straw roofs did not match the overwhelming welcome we received from this poverty stricken community.

It is my passion to get involved with all my groups, my work goes beyond just guiding, for it is not only team members but god loving communities and myself that learn from sharing the gospel.

Working with this community made me realize how grateful I should be for having a bit more than what they have, we entered some of the homes and were privileged to be able to share with this community including the chief who was thrilled to host us. We helped teaching, doing arts and crafts with the children, making food aid available and sharing with his people. Who would have thought someone could be so grateful for a glass of juice and a piece of cake WOW what a joy to see.

A Safari to Chisomo game reserve was a definite highlight the group ended the week of ministry with a Big 5 game safari which included a bush walk to see the cheetahs in their natural environment. A evening spend around a boma fire and reflecting on our time in South Africa was just the ultimate send off for the group.

This trip was life changing, mind blowing, God given experience for me to accept things in my life and made me grow as a person.

Loved it so much
