Volunteer projects for 2015

Kids Praise

The time has finally arrived for the announcement of our 2015 Volunteer Project dates.

We know volunteers have been waiting on the edge of their seats for the new dates, to see where and when they could join next year. As has become tradition, we have volunteer projects that run between May and July (depending on the length of the project) within our three regions, namely Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Each year we aim to make the projects more accessible in both price and through the application process. And the priority will always be our communities who are supported through these projects. We are committed to responsible volunteering and make sure that the projects you work with will give you the chance not only to share the Gospel, but to share Christ’s love in a practical way. For many this experience ends up being one of spiritual growth and more of an exchange, rather than a one-sided experience.

Here are a few highlights from 2015’s projects:

Please visit http://actsafrica.com/volunteer/ for detailed information.

Kenya, Limuru:
Dates: 29 June – 27 July 2015 (4 weeks)
Cost: US$ 1650

Kenya faces a great challenge with orphans. There are over 1 million recorded orphans, of whom only 5% receive government support. We actively support projects that provide a solution to these challenges, as well as related problems such as HIV/AIDS, poverty, illness, abuse and homelessness.

Lend a hand at various orphanages and aftercare centres, and spend some inspirational time with the Women’s Power Group.

Zimbabwe, Harare:
Dates: 29 June to 25 July 2015 (4 weeks) or 25 May to 4 July (6 weeks)
Cost: US$ 1585 (4 weeks) or US$ 2385 (6 weeks)

In Harare it is estimated that one in every three children is an orphan. In order to address this problem, ACTS became involved mainly in orphanage projects. Over the years this has expanded to other areas of importance too, and in partnership with Living Hope, what started out as one project, became many projects.

During your time in Harare you will mainly be involved with schools and their students; with plenty of opportunity to share Christ’s love while practically addressing the needs they may have at these schools.

South Africa, Cape Town:
Dates: 22 June to 25 July 2015 (5 weeks)
Cost: US$ 1995 *Please note if 8 placements have not been booked by March we are reviewing this project

In partnership with Living Hope, the volunteer project in Cape Town is aimed at bringing hope and breaking the despair of poverty and disease for those who need it most. Through Living Hope’s Living Right Ministry, education empowers youth to prevent the spread of illnesses like HIV/AIDS as well as empowering them through very important life skills.

Most of your volunteer work will be with Living Right, especially with the Holiday, Children and Teens club during the South African School holidays. Here you will spend some time with the local children, keeping them busy with songs, games, sports, arts & crafts, Bible stories and devotionals. But you will also have the opportunity to be involved with other ministries under the umbrella of Living Hope.
