Our History

African Encounter was started by the Connolly family as a safari and tourism operator in Zimbabwe.

Up until 2003, African Encounter became increasingly aware of many successful mission trips that were taking place in Southern Africa. Simultaneously however, it became evident that many of the missionaries, pastors and team leaders involved in handling the multitude of mission teams were taking strain under the considerable burden of arranging all the accompanying logistics.

With African Encounter’s ability to facilitate logistics for visitors to the continent, and with God’s clear call, ACTS was born, with a vision to facilitate mission work and Christian holidays in Africa to relieve the logistical burden off team leaders and local pastors and missionaries.

2003 saw the first handful of ACTS-facilitated mission trips taking place in Southern and East Africa, in partnership with local missionaries and missions organizations.

The following years brought incredible growth and by 2006 ACTS was operating from 3 regional offices, and serving missionaries and organizations throughout Southern and East Africa.

Continued steady growth resulted in the expansion of ACTS’ fleets of vehicles, its own accommodation facilities and most importantly an ever-growing number of staff fully-committed to Christ and the people of Africa.

In 2009, ACTS started facilitating individual Christian volunteer placements in Southern and East Africa, stemming from an increased interest for longer-term placements from short-term mission team members and a need for continued assistance from ministry partners on the ground.

It continues to be a priviledge and an honour to be a small part of what God is doing on this amazing continent through our involvement in both group and individual Christian missions travel, and being able to give Christians the opportunity to experience, explore and enjoy God’s wonderful creation through unforgettable holidays and safaris.
